Advanced Ecological Modelling Notebooks
After years of providing environmental modelling services through the EcoCommons platform, the growing demand from environmental data scientists for direct access to the code led to the development of EcoCommons Notebooks as a complementary service. We offer notebooks in both Quarto Markdown (.qmd) and Jupyter Notebook (.ipynb) formats, making it easier for users to interact with and customise workflows. To enhance accessibility, we also provide a blog where users can view rendered versions of the Quarto notebooks to better understand each step. Inspired by ALA Labs and Roboflow Notebooks, EcoCommons Notebooks aim to bridge the gap between platform-based tools and hands-on coding.
Key Features of EcoCommons Notebooks
Expanded EcoCommons Services
Build on the existing EcoCommons platform by providing more flexible modelling workflows through Quarto notebooks and scripts.
Run anywhere
Execute models on cloud platforms (Google Colab, TERN Virtual CoEsRA, ARDC Jupyter Hub) or locally, depending on user needs.
Beyond SDM's
Cover a wide range of environmental data science skills, including species distribution modelling, geospatial analysis, ecological modelling, and data processing.
Access & Integrate External Data
Easily connect to and process environmental datasets from sources like EcoCommons, ALA, GBIF, and remote sensing platforms.
New notebooks are released monthly, and users are encouraged to contribute ideas or upload their own notebooks at any time. Star the EcoCommons Github repository to stay updated on new releases and project progress!
